'being happy'..as I see it..
Ah.. I'll try to explain!!
As cheesecake comments -" i think its the ppl around u that matter more"..
-- well, I totally disagree with this one!
If it were the family that mattered most.. then all those staying in huge families would have always been very very happy.
If it were a boyfriend/girlfriend/or the sort - then all married or committed people would always have been very very happy..
If it were pleasant team mates/colleagues/friends around you.. then several people across the world... would be really really happy - no matter whtever else happened in life!!
All I mean is, that there is no "ideal set of people, situations and place" which would bring happiness in your life. Never!
There is no such thing as a 'perfect boyfriend/girlfriend' .. or a 'perfect job'.. or a 'perfect country/city'.
If I think.. that let this happen.. and then I'll be happy... Let that happen.. and then I will be happy.. - -trust me, I'm never gonna make it..
If you are content -- right NOW, right HERE.. sitting on this chair.. gazing at the computer screen.. reading this blog.. you need nothing else. Whatever you are today.. whatever you are doing right now.. this moment.. if you are happy doing that.. you have made it!
Being happy is a habit. It is a verb.
And you know how that can be achieved?
-- By being 100% in the moment! And by giving your 100% to whatever you are doing in the m-o-m-e-n-t !!
When your mind is not in the past, and not in the future.. it is happy!
Have you noticed it? When you're, lets say, at a game of chess/football/any computer game - you are completely in the game.. you're focussed.. you're in the m-o-m-e-n-t! And do you remember feeling any pain at that time? Do you remember feeling malice towards that mean friend who abused you last night? Do you remember in that moment, that you hate your neighbour!? Or that how much you love your mom? Or that you have deadline to meet next week..??
When you give your mind some rest, you are happy.
When you are not thinking, you are happy!
And when are you not thinking? When you are in the present moment!
:)

It seriously will help you/All.

PS: I thought you will not answer my comment.. was happy to read the POST :)
Good Luck Sugandh !
good post.. you make complete sense, and i agree especially with the part where you say "If I think.. that let this happen.. and then I'll be happy... Let that happen.. and then I will be happy.. - -trust me, I'm never gonna make it.."
there are moments when we are alone.. that is when what you say comes into effect.. being into the moment 100%.. sometimes, we don't have the power to make ourselves happy.. we need someone/something to trigger it.. like maybe a chocolate? :D
however, there are different scales of happiness too.. it really is quite complicated, come to think of it... i need my morning tea!
For me, happiness is something that you do, that keeps you doing more, and you do more because you are happy.
As cheesecake says, few people need triggers to be happy, few create (for themselves-to_create, for others-their_creation) triggers to be happy. It is the relation between the observer and the artist. Both have art as the stimulus. Both creation and appreciation (sustenance) -- are needed and equal.
Sugandh,
Hard to believe all your creativity in the blog is out of happiness and not thinking ;) Good post! Its indeed a verb for you and hopefully me too!!
@Cheesecake
She feels happy blogging.
You feel happy receiving a good comment!!
Incidentally, I have also written about happiness recently but its a different perspective...
Cheers!
You guys are all right!! :)
There is one more thing that I'd like to add..
Look at life as an observer. Observe, that what is happening around you is a scenery, like a movie.
Know, that you are the seer. And that, the seer is different from the scenery.
Whenever you are sad due to any reason, just observe that you have actually merged the two.
Whenever you get sad, just step back and see that whatever is happening around you - good or bad, is not in your control...And that you are being sad, coz you have associated yourself with the 'happening', with the 'scenery' .. The moment you realise, that the seer is different from the scenery, you feel free.
:)
Another Perspective:
Yoga = UNION of the seer, the seen (scenery) and the process of seeing.
Being ONE (also "Being in LOVE with EVERYTHING") = Being free because there is no OTHER to be free from.
If I can sense the OTHER, I feel the need to be free from the OTHER. And freedom being the most basic necessity, there is no happiness.
and i totally dont believe in ur ideas about u've got to be happy wherever u r to have "made it" in life or anything like that.. i think its loads of bullshit.
if people were so , the wheel would never have been invented.
hey, i like your perspective about the Yoga thing.. I would say, that your perspective is probably a step ahead from mine.. :)
It is like this - To bring dispassion in life, either say - "Everything in this world is mine" OR say - "Nothing in this world is mine"..
Either ways, you are moving out of your small mind and looking at the bigger consciousness..:)
Thanks for stopping by!
i never said 'being happy' is a passive activity! neither did I imply that it means lack of ambition and desire to move ahead.. But to find contentment in your present status of life, is an art! There is a difference between "contentment" and "passive acceptance"!!!
PS - It is sad, some of the readers here are reading what 'they' want to read! Guys, please dont use my blog to vent out your personal frustrations in life! thank you!
Hardly any practice after so much preaching...I wonder, if the intent is more to brandish philosophy than discuss/share feelings (not accusing, just contemplating)
The question doesn't need an answer at my end, but more introspection at yours. If inspite of all the 'wisdom', you are finding it hard to overcome(or atleast conceal) the most basic of human flaws, then are you on the course towards happiness?
anyway .. i would appreciate if you'd not make much comments about my life and leave me be
@anonymous .. brilliant!
Perspectives, I would say !! And a controversial topic you put forward :-) Everybody has their own definition of how they would be happy.
There is an interesting line from a movie I watched recently. It said "Happiness is not being sad" :-) Profound !! THink about it !
thanks for pointing it out.
yeah, I became the scenery.
@abdul
I am sorry for being mad at you. Your comment was so stupid, it pissed me off.
That is the beauty about being anon, i don't become a part of anybody else's scenery.
I agree with Abdul(not in particular with his cynicism though, perhaps bitterness breeds bitterness) that while many talk about living in the moment, and many more are aware of its need,It is easier said that done. It requires lots of conscious effort (someone said Yoga above).
And even then, we must accept that for most humans, it is not always possible to be happy, content...How would I know I am happy if I don't know how it is to be sad....How will I know I am living in the moment, if I dont do otherwise...So everything is relative and has to be balanced out. So for them to have meaning, we need both...Rama won't be Rama if there was no Ravana.
But yeah, from personal experience, these living in the moment things create blissful situations which we can savor!
Enough said, the Anon withdraws into oblivion till he chances upon this blog again.
guess we are even and at the two other ends of the world when it comes to ideologies.
